Description
The hat is made of a fabric and pattern called dhaka, which is also used for a type of blouse, a dhaka-ko-cholo which translates “blouse made of dhaka fabric”, the name makes reference to the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh where the fabric was originated [3]. The word topi means “hat” in the Nepali language. Men wear the traditional outfit named Daura-Suruwal and also a Patuka (cloth wrapped around the waist) instead of a belt.
Dhaka Topis are given away as gifts during Dashain and Tihar festivals.[4] Many men and women still wear costumes made from Dhaka on a regular basis, and the fabric itself unequivocally represents their tradition and history.
